Birchleggings Club Summer Solstice Stroll

Description

Join us for a pleasant three to five mile hike in the late morning of the year's longest day.  There will be plenty of shade to protect us from the high sun.  Food is available for purchase at the TrailHead, or you can bring your own for a little lunch afterwards.  The Birchleggings Club will provide soft drinks and snacks.   There is no fee for the event and registration on this sight is optional.   All are welcome so bring any family or friends that you wish.  There is no need to be a Birchlegger to be involved in the hike.  Let's gather outside of the Theodore Wirth TrailHead near the fire pit around 9:45 A:M.  We will try to start the hike around 10:00 A:M. Birchleggings Club / Birkie Green Race-Bib Recycling and Landfill Tour

Put your Birkie Green commitment into action as we prepare several hundred extra Birkie and Korte race bibs for recycling. We will remove the timing chips from the bibs so they can be accepted by our new recycling provider. Before we begin working on the bibs, we will have a tour of Republic Services Lake Area Landfill in Sarona, WI. After the tour, we will have lunch in Hayward at a local restaurant (self pay). Work on the bibs begins after lunch.

The day’s events:

Friday, July 19, 2024

9:00 am – Meet at the Birkie office in Hayward

9:15 am – Depart by carpool to Republic Services in Sarona, WI

                 OR… You may meet the group directly at the tour site

10:00 am - Tour of Republic Services Lake Area Landfill:

                   Sarona, WI 54870

Noon - Arrive back in Hayward for lunch at a local restaurant (self pay)

1:00 pm – Begin the bib de-chipping process

Idea brainstorm session for Birkie Green and social time after the work session.

4:00-4:30 pm – Anticipated finish

The more persons we have, the quicker the job will be completed. Invite others you know to support Birkie Green!

Birchleggings Club Disc Golf and Dinner

Description

Following the ABSF Annual meeting on August 10, 2024, the Birchleggings Club is hosting a Disc Golf play session at the Fiddler’s Creek Disc Golf Course in Hayward. A $5 fee will be collected at the Hayward Disc Golf Course before we play.

Have you never played this fun sport? We will teach you with an instructional session before we play. Bring your own discs, or we will provide easy to throw beginner discs for you to use. Here’s a primer on the game of disc golf:

After our round of disc golf, we will convene at the Riverdeck Restaurant for a community meal and discussion about the Birchleggings Club and the possibility of improving the disc golf course at the Telemark Village Complex. Each person will be responsible to pay for their own dinner at the restaurant.

Birchleggings Club Dakota Trail Bicycle Ride

Description

Come join your fellow Birchleggers for a bicycle ride on one of the nicest bicycle rail trails in Minnesota on Thursday, August 15, 2024. This well-kept paved trail goes for 28.5 miles from Wayzata to Lester Prairie, Minnesota, past Lake Minnetonka and Lake Waconia. The trail is in Hennepin and Carver counties and goes through the cities of Spring Park, Mound, St. Bonifacius, Mayer, and New Germany.

Riders can do the full round trip of 57 miles by parking in Wayzata, or shorter distances of 38 miles by parking in Mound, 29 miles by parking in St. Bonifacius, and even 13 miles by parking in Mayer. See links to parking lots below:

The plan would be that the riders doing the shorter distances would join the longer group riders at each location and then ride into Lester Prairie together for lunch at the Central Café, also known as “Mary Kate’s Bitchin Kitchen” for home cooked food! The Central Café only accepts cash, so please bring money.

Birchleggings Club Fall Foliage Hike and Cornhole Classic

Description

What could be better than a peaceful hike in Hyland Park during peak fall colors? Well… “Throw in” an exciting cornhole contest, and you have the makings of our inaugural Fall Foliage Hike and Cornhole Classic!

 This event will be held at the permanent cornhole pits at Hyland Park in Bloomington, MN behind the chalet. This event is free and open to everyone. Feel free to invite family and friends. You do not need to be a Birchlegger or a member of the Birchleggings Club to attend. We do ask you to register through RunSignup using the "Sign Up" link above.

 We will have four courts set up for you. There is no need to bring any equipment. A picnic shelter is right there for our use. We will provide beverages and snacks.
